We also know from Genesis about “the days of Lot” and of “Sodom.”
“In accord with these things themselves it will be in a day that the Son of Man is revealed.”
In this general statement, Jesus seems to say that it is not only on one day that “the Son of Man is revealed.” "A day." Instead, he is drawing attention to the fact that he will be “revealed” in “a day” which will be similar to the days of Noah and Lot. Today as much as yesterday?
“In the same day, the one will be upon the roof and his containers in the house – do not move down to take them! And likewise, the one in a field – do not turn around into the things behind. Remember Lot’s wife!”
If you see the “lightning-flash” today take heed that what you have in your “containers” does not divert you. Nor your own past life. In Genesis, “Lot’s wife” turned her back on the “lightning-flash.”
“If any person may seek to make his soul to remain for himself, he will destroy it. But any person who may destroy will generate life for it.”
What did Jesus mean by “his soul”? His original recorded Greek words also translate as “his breath” or even “his life.” Jesus' statement immediately above is counter-intuitive. On “a day” when you see the “lightning-flash – the Son of Man in his day”, don’t opt to keep your "soul" for your own self. Instead, opting for Jesus will “generate life” for your whole being.
“I state to you, in that night there will be two in one bed. The one will be taken along and the other sent away. There will be two women grinding upon the same task. One will be taken along and the other will be sent away.”
Instead of “a day” for each of us, Jesus describes “that night” for all of us. A night of only two destinies. A night of separation.
